Kamza bar Kamza began as a collaborative research project looking at a hybrid theatrical form of mixed media elements to explore the retelling of the destruction of the second Jewish temple as depicted, and in the tradition of, the talmud. The project was conceived by Shlomo Dubnov as an attempt to perform the story in a debate-play context, and with funding from the "Collaboratories Initiative" an interdisciplinary research team was able to work on the project with the expectation of a realized performance at the end of the first year of work. Outside of the initial research and development phase, Toby was responsible for content integration, as well as, technical development and performance design. The first year's work culminated in a performance at Calit2. Toby was the development lead on the PD programming used for audio and video manipulation and playback, as well as, lighting, sound system design, and scenic element integration.
