The Physicists chronicles the imprisonment of three characters through a web of willing acceptance and unbeknownst deceit. The design elements reflected this imprisonment in the way the atmosphere changed as the three physicists solidified their fate. The scenic elements resembled a more metallic confinement throughout the passage of the play, while the costumes stripped the characters of mercantile protection. The sound design supported this progression in an increasing arc of harsh metallic allusion, reflecting the fate of their empty confinement. The sound system successfully added dramatic intensity to key moments in the play where characters where overpowering or utterly dominated. Utilizing a d&b system and reinforcement body mics, the actors and engineer created a symbiotic relationship responding to each other's performance. The system was also able to articulate the sibilance of the actors' whispers, a primary effect during the ending scenes arresting empathy from the audience.

The sound play-back system consisted of:
M7-CL Yamaha Digital Mixing Console
16 channel play-back via Q-Lab
12 Shure Body Mics
d&b Loudspeaker System

Thank you to William and d&b for making this system happen!
