In The Lake at Night, layers of live-action tell the tale of a man keeping vigil at his sick wife's bedside. Textures of his memory come to life in fluid washes of digital abstraction, and bodies are collaged in time and space to explore what lurks in the darker corners of his unconscious mind. -T.Kight

An interesting facet about The Lake at Night from a sound design perspective is how the sound and visual elements are built from one another. The process for the sound component of this film is quite involving and benefited from the director's view of sound in film. The process began with recording dialogue on the set while the crew was shooting. The next step would inherently be picture lock at which time the film would pass over and the sound treatment would be incorporated. This situation was different in that the director wanted sound prelims in re-action to some scenes, the goal being to cut the image to sound. This established a back and forth scenario where the image would be edited, then the sound would be edited to the draft, then the image would be edited to the latest sound draft. Ultimately after the better part of a year a synthesis was created, where the image and sound coexist propelling each respective part. The film takes on a completely different character when experienced with only image or sound, however, the final piece was created from both elements responding to the other.
